This...is the story of how I died... But don’t worry, this is actually a very funny story, and the truth is, it isn’t even mine. This is the story of a girl...named Rapunzel.
Well, it starts with the sun. Now, once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens. And from this drop sprouted a magic golden flower. It had the power to heal the sick and injured. Oh, you see that old woman back there? You might want to remember her: she’s kind of important.
Well, centuries passed, and a hop, skip, and a boat ride away, there grew a kingdom. This kingdom was ruled by a beloved king and queen. And the queen...well, she was about to have a baby. But she got sick.
Like, really sick.
There wasn’t much time left, and that’s right when people start to look for a miracle.
Or, in this case...a magic golden flower.
Ah, I told you she’d be important. Y’see, instead of sharing the sun’s gift with the world, this woman, Mother Gothel, hoarded it’s magic to keep herself young for hundreds of years! And all she had to do was sing a special song:
Flower, gleam and glow!
Let your power shine!
Make the clock reverse...
...bring back what once was mine!
What once...was mine!!
Okay, you get the jist. She sings to the flower, turns young: creepy right? But the sun’s gift could not be hidden for long. The kingdom eventually found the flower, to the dismay and anger of Mother Gothel. The flower’s power healed the queen. A healthy baby girl- a princess, with beautiful golden hair- was born!
I’ll give you a hint. That’s Rapunzel.
In celebration of her birth, the king and queen launched a brilliant lantern into the sky.
For that one moment, everything was perfect. And then that moment ended.
Mother Gothel, upon sneaking into the castle, found the princess, who had gained the power of the flower! But she also found that, when her hair was cut, it turned brown and lost it’s magical qualities. So, Gothel stole the child for herself, and just like that...
Gone!
The kingdom searched and searched, but they could not find Rapunzel or Mother Gothel. But, deep within the forest, in a hidden tower, Gothel raised the child as her own. She had found her new magic flower: but this time, she was determined to keep her hidden. That meant she was, well, grounded.
Like, forever.
But the tower’s walls could not hide everything. For, as Rapunzel discovered, the kingdom released THOUSANDS of lanterns into the night sky on Rapunzel’s birthday, in hope that one day...
...their lost princess would return.
